I figured out what to do with part of my day. More selective focusing in manual mode. The sweltering mid-90s temperatures of late have pretty much provided the death nail to any ideas I had of shooting outdoors. Perhaps one of these days after sunset. So, I decided to just take random shots of things around my place. I’ve always been partial to black and white photography and since the handbag and shoes are both originally black, I figured they would make good B&W subjects. I threw in the jewel box simply because it’s one of my favourite things.

All images were shot with a Nikon 50mm f/1.8 lens, at ISO 400, aperture priority, JPEG fine. Desaturation/black & white greyscale mapping in post with Photoshop (haven’t yet taken the time to investigate B&W in-camera).

I like the way the images turned out, particularly the contrast in the purse image and the DOF of the shoes image.
