While sifting through old files this weekend I ran across some graphics I designed quite a while ago. They were created during a period when I used my diva:flava domain as my personal blog. It has since been re-purposed as a food blog. Below is a piece (I used to slice many of my graphics in Photoshop) of a blog layout I designed in July 2002. The complete layout can be viewed here (opens in a new window).

Just a quick note to let everyone know that I finally got around to splitting this site. Since I blog on a variety of topics (including food, poetry, music, weight loss, exercise), I decided that it would be best to separate those posts and give them a place of their own. urban:masala proper (.net) will now house my phototography, video and art/design posts, exclusively. All entries that are not art-related been moved to my new personal blog.

So, if you’re looking to find out what else I’m doing, you can check me out there. And don’t forget to add or update the new address in your bookmarks and links.

Thanks!

When he kissed me on that hot summer night in 2004 I sensed for the first time that life as I had always known it would cease to exist. Something inside told me I would be sorry one day. I should have listened. 1,825 days later. I now understand why!

To be continued…

Until today, I had been shooting everything in “auto” mode. That’s a shame, I know, but I’m lazy like that sometimes. But knowing in the back of my mind that I must start shooting manually in order to step up the level of my game and become a serious photographer prompted me to break out my camera today and get started. These are a couple of the first images I shot.

Went out this morning on an unplanned, random shoot. No plan in mind, just out shooting willy-nilly, and unfortunately the clips show it. Thought I’d try my ability to shoot hand-held, assuming that the built-in “image stabilization” feature would compensate for my jitters. WRONG! To my utter shock, things did not go so well and the majority of the 30 clips/25+ minutes of footage I shot is JUNK, useful only for editing practice. Needless to say, I am not pleased. What the heck was I thinking? I guess I was hoping for magic.

Once I’ve finished editing everything, I will update this post to include the video I was able to make. In the meantime, I was playing around with Magic Bullet (courtesy of the generous people a Red Giant Software) before I wrote this post and did a color enhancement of one of the more decent clips, using one of the presets. Here is the result.

French Pressed Coffee

Instead of just the weekly random photo, I shot more video footage yesterday to continue honing my tripod skills. Things went a bit better this time. My hands weren’t nearly as shaky, but I still need to become more proficient in operating the tripod controls. The Velbon DV-7000 is a tight little fluid-head tripod, but I’ve come to understand that producing smooth pans and tilts is a bit of an art. It takes practice. Mos def!

Finally got around to testing the new tripod I purchased a couple of months ago. Sad that it took me so long, I know, but I’ve been busy with other things. Hopefully, I will shoot something decent soon, but I had a bit of time on my hands this evening and decided to make this test clip. Nothing fancy, just messing about in the kitchen testing the pan and tilt features.
