Ms. Nyee Moses - A Rising Star

urban masala on 05 15, 2008

I finally received my copy of her self-titled, debut album, Nyee (pronounced “nigh-ee”) Moses. I’m not a professional critic, by any stretch, but I feel compelled to toss in my $.02 on this piece. Her vibrant talent is undeniable and the album is certainly all I had hoped it would be and more. This joint has all the right elements in perfect balance — lyrics, vocals, music, arrangement. The woman has certainly earned her props. Unlike many recent-day offerings from some artists, there’s not a bad song in the bunch. Mostly a fresh blend of sultry, neo-soulful, smooth-jazzy tunes with an unmistakable Sade-esque vibe (sans the melancholy), this compilation is definitely an album for lovers (with the exception of the last track, Summertime).
The opening track, Between Us, my personal favourite, which I first heard a few months ago on Houston’s smooth jazz station, The Wave, continues to receive heavy airplay, daily. With her seductive, come-hither vocals, Nyee blows this song out of the park, atop the background of obvious Latin flava guitar strings. Her rich, sophisticated voice emits a warm, intense passion that resonates through every song, particularly so with Love Is A Lion, Vanilla, Acacia Tree and The Journey.

What else can I say? It’s a dope CD. Period!

As for me, I’m gonna cook up a sensuous meal, light a few candles, break out my favourite wine, sit back, chillax and enjoy the euphonious stylings of the ultra talented Ms. Nyee Moses — sure to heat things up for Valentine’s Day and beyond.

This is definitely “grown folks” music, y’all!
