Fitness Goals: June 2009

urban masala on 06 14, 2009

It’s been a minute since I updated on the exercise/weight loss front. Suffice it to say, I failed miserably with my May 2009 goals. Not only did I fail to lose 10 pounds, but I gained a pound, mainly because I haven’t done a dayum thing since May 13 when I developed severe muscle spasms during my last yoga session. Things have not been the best with eating either, but I won’t even bother going into further detail, particularly since June is already half over. Let’s just move on, shall we?

I started reading The Beginning Runner’s Handbook last night and it’s helping me get to a new mind space with my fitness training. Just the jump start In needed. While I am not at a point where I can offer a constructive book review, I will say that I am in agreement with what I’ve read so far. The book also offers five different walking and running programmes, which I think are quite reasonable. My plan is to start the 13 week walking program tomorrow morning in preparation for the 13-week walk-to-run programme. My goal is to do the first 6 weeks of the walking plan (unless I feel I need to do more) and then transition to the walk-run programme.

I also received my Garmin Forerunner a couple of weeks ago, which I haven’t learned to use yet. Though my first choice was the 405 model, I ended up going with the 50 for two reasons. First, the 50 works indoors as well as out; all other models only work outdoors. Second, I decided see how much I use this thing before I invest hundreds for something that may end up collecting dust along with other well-intentioned gadgets on my toy shelf.

Okay, here are my goals for the remainder of June (15 thru 30):

- Complete nine 30 to 45-min. walks
- Complete seven 45-min. yoga sessions/week
- Do two 15-min. daily meditations
- Do not exceed my WW points limit by more than 6 pts/day
- Complete weeks 1 and 2 of my 6-week walking plan
- Drop 5 pounds

Okay, let’s see how well I do this time.

June Motivational Quote

I’ve missed more than 9,000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I’ve been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.” — Michael Jordan
